“Nigeria Will Not Succumb to Terrorists” — Tinubu Reacts to Maiduguri Explosion

‎President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the recent bomb explosion in Maiduguri, declaring that Nigeria will not bow to terrorism.

‎In a statement released on Tuesday, the President described the incident as disturbing and painful. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and the suffering of victims.

‎Tinubu extended his condolences to families affected by the tragedy and assured them of the government’s support.

‎“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” Tinubu said.

‎The President noted that the attack reflects the desperation of insurgent groups facing sustained military pressure. He said security forces have continued to make progress in weakening terrorist networks across the country.

‎“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres,” he stated.

‎Tinubu assured Nigerians that efforts to combat insecurity will not slow down. He emphasized that operations against criminal elements will be intensified in all affected regions.

‎“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be,” he added.

‎The President also commended troops for their bravery in confronting attackers. He praised their resilience in repelling coordinated assaults on military formations in Borno State.

‎“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state.”

‎Describing the incident as a desperate move by insurgents, Tinubu expressed confidence in the ability of security forces to restore order.

‎“The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups. Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down.”

‎He further disclosed that new security measures have already been approved. According to him, additional equipment and operational support are being deployed to strengthen ongoing efforts.

‎“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” Tinubu disclosed.

‎The President also issued directives to security and emergency agencies. He ordered top security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to coordinate operations on ground. Emergency responders were also instructed to ensure proper medical care for victims.

‎“Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he said.

‎Reaffirming his administration’s stance, Tinubu vowed that those behind the attack will be hunted down and defeated.

‎“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President declared.
