Popular nightlife entrepreneur and socialite, Cubana Chief Priest, has admitted that not backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last general election was a mistake.
The businessman made the remark while speaking at a political gathering in Imo State. His comments have since stirred conversations among political observers and supporters in the state.
Chief Priest said the meeting was not spontaneous. According to him, it followed weeks of consultations and planning among supporters and political actors in the region.
He explained that the gathering was aimed at strengthening unity and demonstrating support for the current administration at the federal level.
The socialite said the decision to shift political strategy came after years of opposition politics that, in his view, did not produce the expected outcomes.
“We have decided to partner with the government at the center. We are not ready to fight. We tried fighting and it didn’t work for us,” he said.
He noted that working closely with the federal government could help attract development projects and other benefits to the state and the wider South-East region.
During his remarks, the businessman also praised the governor of the state, Hope Uzodimma, for maintaining what he described as a cordial relationship with the presidency. He said the governor’s approach to politics has helped position the state to benefit from federal cooperation.
Chief Priest further spoke about the growing influence of Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son. He described him as a figure helping to build bridges across political and ethnic divides.
According to him, such engagement has encouraged many young people and influencers to take interest in national politics.
Reflecting on the last election cycle, the businessman admitted that he had previously opposed Tinubu’s candidacy. However, he now considers that position a political miscalculation.
“Politics is a game…we don’t want to lose again and we will never waste our votes again,” he said
He also predicted that the wave of support currently building around the president could transform into one of the largest political movements in the country. He added that supporters were already mobilising ahead of future elections.
Chief Priest concluded his remarks by praying for the success of the president’s administration. He also called on Nigerians to embrace unity and cooperation in order to move the country forward.
