Nigeria strengthens security ties with UK, Germany to combat terrorism

‎Tom Harper and Boris Bovecamp, Defence Attachés of the United Kingdom and Germany to Nigeria, have reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to supporting Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and insurgency.

‎The assurance was given during their visit to the headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

‎Harper said the United Kingdom shares a longstanding relationship with Nigeria anchored on mutual respect and a commitment to democracy, rule of law and human rights.

‎He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their efforts in tackling insurgency in the north-east.

‎Harper said the UK would continue to provide training support through the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT).

‎Bovecamp said Germany was exploring areas of future collaboration, particularly in capacity building and regional cooperation to enhance operational effectiveness against terrorism.

‎In his remarks, Maj-Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, lauded the contributions of the UK and German Defence Attachés to counter-insurgency operations.

‎Abubakar said training initiatives supported by the partners had enhanced the skills and proficiency of troops in responding to evolving security challenges.

‎He identified technical expertise, equipment and logistics support as key areas for further collaboration.
