Independence Anniversary: Tinubu to inaugurate renovated National Theatre

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be inaugurating the newly renovated National Arts Theatre on Wednesday as part of an event to mark the countryโ€™s 65 years of independence.

This was disclosed in a joint statement on Monday by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Bankersโ€™ Committee, and the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

According to the statement, the reopening is a celebration of Nigeriaโ€™s rich cultural legacy and a launchpad for its creative industries.

Commenting on the scheduled inauguration, CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso said the theatre represents the countryโ€™s history.

On his part, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the theatre will serve as a meeting point for global conferences.

โ€œThe Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts (National Theatre) will not only showcase arts, tourism, and culture but will also serve as a world-class venue for global conferences and performances.โ€

Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, described the project as โ€œa gift to the nation and a source of prideโ€.

โ€œThe successful renovation of the National Theatre marks a milestone in our collective effort to preserve cultural assets while creating new opportunities for the creative industry,โ€ she added.

Recall that the Federal Executive Council approved 21.89 billion for the refurbishment of the theatre in 2021.
