NDLEA takes ‘War Against Drug Abuse’ campaign to traditional institutions in Yobe

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday, took its War Against Drug Abuse campaign to traditional institutions in Yobe State as part of its renewed commitment to nip the menace of drug trafficking and abuse in the bud in the state.

Yahaya Aliyu, the newly-posted Commander of the Agency who led other officers to the palace of Chairman Yobe State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Fika, said the agency always holds traditional institutions with high esteem considering their important role in social mobilization, hence partnering with them to fight the scourge of drug trafficking and abuse across the state.

He said the agency will be working hand in glove with the monarch and by extension the remaining emirate councils for the anti-narcotic agency to effectively discharge its responsibilities in the state.

The Commander added that NDLEA is determined to also partner with relevant agencies in the state towards eradicating illicit drugs.

Responding, the Chairman Yobe State Council of Traditional Rulers and Emir of Fika, Alhaji Muhammad Ibn Abali Muhammad Idrissa, commended the Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), for repositioning the agency aimed at ensuring that Nigeria is free from all forms of illicit drugs.

He said this, has culminated in the recent successes recorded by the agency where dozens of drug traffickers were arrested in addition to seizure of hundreds of kilograms of hard drugs.

The Royal Father on behalf of the remaining emirate councils assured to support the agency to enable it performs its duties effectively in the state.

“Our doors are open always for you. We will support you always to enable you to succeed. We’re disturbed with the effects of drugs on our agile youths where it ends up ruining their future”, he said.

The Emir use the forum where he warned people in the state against intake of illicit drugs which according to him has negative effects on their health. “Most of the crimes in our society were being committed under the influence of drugs, imagine a person slaughtering his fellow human being.”
