Following the Tuesday fire outbreak that ravages shops along keffi police station road,opposite the key stone bank,the chairman,keffi local government area, honourable Muhammed Babashehu has set up a Eleven member committee on Wednesday.
The committee which will be headed by Lawal maizabo as chairman, was given a seven point terms of reference.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday at the wee of the hours, the popular PARAGON super market along with over 12 other shop was gutted by fire.
The chairman who was on an official trip to Lagos had earlier shared symphaty with the owners of the shops by deligating his deputy chairman ,directors and other elected councillors to the scene of the fire, promising that upon his arrival,a committee will be set up to unravel the remote cause of the incident.
At the inauguration of the 11 man committee, honourable Muhammed Babashehu,said the incident created tension among citizens of Keffi, especially the victims who are already in disarray and in a state of confusion.
He said” this is a trying and challenging moment in this council,the affected shop owners engulfed by the fire inferno and peace loving citizens of Keffi as properties worth millions of naira were destroyed and commercial activities in the area have been adversely affected.
” As a council with the Spirit of emphaty as brothers keepers ,we share the pains of this tragic incident and appeal to all especially the victims to remain calm.” Shehu said.
State assembly member,representing keffi west, Engineer Abdullaziz S.K who is also the chairman house committee on works and transport, expressed sadness with the fire incident.
Abdullaziz who was also in company of the council chairman to the site of the fire inferno, added that he on getting the information ,got in touch with the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule who also share sympathy with the victims of the fire, added that measures will be put in place towards cushioning the effect of the fire disaster.
According to him,6 places in keffi LGA under a week had suffered various degrees of fire accidents,he also expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction of the Antau Bridge, which was affected by flood and immediately the governor awarded the contract.
” I most say that the level of work on the bridge as I saw after our assessment tour of the fire incidences that took place in keffi,is quite encouraging” He added.
METRO DAILY NIGERIA report that the 7 terms of reference given to the committee set up by the council chairman, includes to investigate the cause of the inferno, Identify shop owners who were affected, asses the values of properties and valuables destroyed ,advice on measures to forestalling or avert recurrence, commend appropriately with the view to mitigating pains of the affected victims and any other recommendation from the committee in line with the circumstance.
