Ebonyi records partial lockdown despite cancellation of sit-at-home by IPOB

Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital on Friday witnessed a partial lockdown despite the cancellation of the one-week sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Newsmen gathered that the residents of the Abakaliki metropolis as a result of fear and to avert being attacked by unknown gunmen willingly decided to observe the aborted sit-at-home.

Major streets, including Federal highways and state roads were completely deserted by residents of the state.

Sources who spoke with newsmen in Abakaliki said the reasons why residents of the state decided to voluntarily obey the aborted sit-at-home, is because they thought that the cancellation was fake and coming from people who are not genuinely leaders of IPOB.

Shop owners in major markets and along the streets of Abakaliki at the early hours of Friday voluntarily decided not to come out for businesses except a few courageous ones who opened their shops in the afternoon.

Also, civil servants in Ebonyi State according to findings voluntarily observed the botched IPOB sit-at-home, shunned work to avert being attacked or killed by hoodlums.

However, our correspondent who moved around, observed that majority of transport depots, fuel stations and event centres were not open at the early hours of Friday.
