National Youth Day: Protests on bad state of roads in Niger has paid off – NYCN

The Niger State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has said the various agitations and protests carried out by youth in the state over the dilapidated state of roads have started yielding fruits.

The state Chairman, NYCN, Bello Sheriff revealed this at a press briefing to mark this year’s National Youth Day in Minna.

He said the protests have drawn the attention of the Federal Government and the Nigeria Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to intervene on the roads in the state.

“We applaud the federal government and Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation for its intervention on the construction and rehabilitation of the federal road in Niger State, hence, the youths protests and agitations have yielded positive results,” he stated.

Sheriff also urged Nigerian youth to desist from getting involved in criminal activities and contribute to the peace, stability and development of the country.

He noted that youths constitute over 60% of the country’s population that must actively participate in the politicking and leadership processes to achieve the desired change in the society.

“We challenge the youth in the country on the need to unite the country, if the needed development must be achieved. We will only support aspiring politicians that have the youth at heart. We should explore new opportunities to better our lot rather than waiting for white-collar jobs that are not available”.

The state NYCN chairman then appealed to governments, institutions and well to do individuals to engage, empower and support the youths to acquire various skills or talents to enable them become self-reliant.
