The President, Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Kano Chapter, Dr. Rahila Muhktar has reaffirmed the safety of Covid-19 Vaccine calling on all people to come out and join the train of the vaccine in a bid to rid the community of the deadly virus.
Mukhtar who spoke to news men at a 1 day sensitization meeting with members of MWAN on Covid-19 Second Phase Vaccination which took place at Tahir Guess Palace, Kano with support form UNICEF said, she has taken the jab without any side effects and can affirm to the public that it is safe.
According to her, there has been cases of resistance towards the vaccine due to fear of the unknown and activities of this she described ‘anti social people’ who spread false information about the vaccine that the vaccine is coming to fast whereas there have been other diseases such as malaria which has claimed millions of lives for long without a vaccine.
In view of the above, the Association deemed it pertenent to create more public awareness on the subject matter by organizing the sensitization seminar for all its members comprising of all female doctors working in the State to serve as the starting point.
She said through this, they hope to mobilize more members who in turn will enlighten the public on the vaccination process which has been going on for awhile but has recorded slow pace in terms of acceptance.
“We want people to be more aware, we want them to accept the vaccine that is why as Medical Women and Professionals that we are, feel that it is our duty and responsibility to educate the public starting with our own members.
Through our interventions in the past, people have accepted various programs that’s why we feel by creating more awareness on Covid-19 vaccination by seeing our members taking it, more people in the community will accept it from us”, Rahila added.
A participant, Dr. Faiza Lawal Muhammad said the importance of the sensitization for female medical doctors in the State can not be overemphasized considering their role in the society as both mothers and health officials.
She said the sensitization which brought together doctors from different area of specialization will further equip them with knowledge of the virus and how the vaccine works which they can relate to their patients.
Faiza, further stated that emphasis has been on public health physicians when it comes to the issue of covid-19 but with the training, other doctors can now also help in the campaign for people to get vaccinated against the killer virus.
