Yusuf Maitama Vasity Begins Post Graduate Programs

The Vice Chancellor, Yusuf Maitama Sule University Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa has announced that the University has gotten approval for the commencement of Post Graduate Programs after 42 courses were acreditated by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

In an exclusive interview to mark his one year in office as the VC of the University, Kurawa stated that this achievement is in addition to the 33 accredited undergraduate programs run by the school under the faculties of Basic Medical Science, Science, Education, Humanities and Clinical Sciences.

According to him, after much has been done in terms of infrastructural development, facilities, and human resources to accommodate more students for various cadres, the NUC was invited some time in December last year and after series of verification processes some time this year, the accreditation was secured for all the 42 post graduate courses applied for full time giving the institution an edge over its peers who started almost the same time.

In view of this, Kurawa stated that the 2020-2021 academic session for the program has begun with the sale of online forms on the School Portal with applicants already submitting their applications.

He described this a tremendous achievement considering the fact that the University was established in 2012 but now running 75 courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate.

Noting that the Yusuf Maitama Sule University is now a force to reckon with in terms of academic trainings and other academic activities.

In the same vein, Atiku also revealed that arrangements are in top gears for the provision of a teaching hospital for the University where it’s MBBS students can practice and the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital has been selected for the upgrade considering it’s available infrastructure such as hostels and quarters needed by both the students and the academic teaching staff.

He said arrangements have gone far as the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has assured them that the State Government will support them in providing them with a teaching hospital where medical students would be trained which he believes will provide adequate medical personnel to Mann the various state of the art medical facilities built across the five Emirates in the State and this he assured would be be done before the students gets to their clinical stage.

Furthermore, the University Don said in its bid to further provide the students with condusive learning environment, the Central Bank has come to it’s aid by demanding for land to construct two students’ hostels under it’s special intervention for Universities.

He said the hostels will go a long way to address issues of accomodation for their students as many who are now coming into the State to study in the school are in need of a place to stay and the hostels would be the best place for them considering it’s proximity to lecture halls.

Prof. Mukhtar also explained that since his assumption into office, the security office and its personnel have been upgraded and furnished with modern facilities as well as motorcycles for patrol within and around the school compound to ensure the safety of students, staff and facilities and also engage them in series of training and retraining to meet up with present challenges bedeviling the country.

Atiku stressed that with support from various relevant quarters within and outside the institution, the University shall further attain a prominent place amongst it’s counterparts.
