A teenage Hausa- Fulani hersdman Abubakar Mohammed was on Monday found daed around Saint Mary Hospital, Umudei Quarters in Ogwashi Uku Community near Asaba, Delta State.
The Father of the deceased, Alhaji Mudi Abubakar who confirmed the incident to Journalists in Asab on Tuesday said that the body of his son was found around Saint Mary Hospital Umudei Quarters in Ogwashi Uku Community already dead, adding that his son’s body was inflicted with wounds sustained from matchete cuts on his head,leg and hand.
While saying that no arrrest has been made, Alhaji Mudi Abubakar said that the matter had been reported to the police at Ogwashi Uku Police Division adding that the body of his son had also been buried according to the muslim rites
Police Commissioner in the State, Hafiz Muhammed Inuwah who confirmed the incident said that investigation was ongoing with a view to bringing those responsible for the alleged killing of the hersdman to arrest and assured that the police will do everything possible to ensure that the killers are brought to arrest.
As a way of forestalling a reprisal attack on the people of the community by the aggrieved herders, the leadership of Ogwashi Uku Development Association ( ODA) was reported to have met with members of the Hausa community in Ogwashi Uku with a representative of the state government and the security agencies one side
But in a swift reaction, the President General of the Association, Mr John Okolie during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased and members of the Hausa- Fulani community in Ogwashi Uku, charged any member of the public with useful information that will lead to the arrrest of culprits to come forward with it and solicited for a peaceful coexistence between the Hausa community and the people of Ogwashi Uku.
Rev Okolie regretted the gruesome murder of the lad, added” I am deeply sad about the death of the Abubakar, it is a terrible incident that will not happen again, therefore,let us not take law into our hands.Also, anyone who has useful information that will lead to the arrrest of the culprits should come to me and I will make sure it gets to the appropriate security agencies.
We are all peaceful people and promise that we will continue to live in peace” In another development, a concerned indigene of Ogwashi Uku identified as Okafor Mathias has condemned the continued and indiscriminate sale of farmlands and appealed to the state government to come to their aid
He said”let me add my voice to appeal to the state government to come to our aid, we are not interested in the activities of these hoodlums who have embarked on the sale of our lands indiscriminately, we cannot fold our hands and watch these hoodlums taking over our vast lands, rather we appeal to the police and the state government to come to our aid”
