Mrs Okowa pays N3.433m bills for indigents patients at FMC Asaba

The founder, 05 Initiative, who also is the wife of the Delta state Governor, Mrs Edith Okowa has paid over N3 433million bills for indigents patients at the Federal Medical Center ( FMC) Asaba at the weekend.

As part of her activities to mark the annual celebration of the world Charity Day, Mrs Okowa presented a cheque of N3.433 million naira to the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Victor Osiatuma, and explained why in the past four years she had consistently chosen to clear the bills of indigent patients at FMC, Asaba

She said” We have vowed to always put smiles on the faces of many, especially indigent patients and by the special Grace of God, we will not relent in our effforts, and I have always chosen FMC, Asaba because that is the only hospital where patients are admitted without being asked to pay anything”

The wife of the Governor however explained that she had through her initiative encountered patients who after several months of being discharged still remained stranded at the hospital, adding that being alive does not mean one is the best, God has rather kept one alive and there is need to always thank God”

But the Chief Medical Director, Dr Victor Osiatuma who spoke to Journalists thanked the Delta First Lady, Mrs Edith Okowa for her magnanimity to pay off the bills for the indigent patients, adding”, the patients do not have silver or gold to give in return but they are continually offering their sincere prayers for her and her team”

According to Osiatuma, one of the indigent patients, ( names withheld) lost the two babies in the process as a result of complications with the younger of them being diagnosed with a hole in the heart after birth, adding that at the point of her discharge, the woman had accrued a bill of N1.5million and had only made a deposit of N10,000 and was allowed to go home without further payments

In another development the Founder of Hopeful Widows Foundation , Pastor Blessing Ubaka has been commended for her love and care for the widows

Widows numbering over fifty were at the weekend taken care of by Pastor Blessing Ubaka in Ogwashi Uku Community near Asaba.

Speaking to Journalists, Pastor Ubaka said that widows need attention to enable them have senses of belonging, adding that God has so much interest in widows, hence her interest in providing for them at all times no matter how small it may be and lauded the wife of Delta state Governor Mrs Edith Okowa for her supports to the less privileged.
