Three Delta Communities To benefit from DESUWACO, USAID Water Project

In a bid to achieve potable drinking water , Delta State Urban Water Cooperation (DESUWACO) in partnership with the United State Agency International Development (USAID) on Monday commenced the installation of new water plant in Okpanam, Issele Uku, and Ogwashi Uku Communities

The General Manager, DESUWACO, Engr Nosa Okoh who spoke Journalists in Asaba in an interview, said that USAID effective water Sanitation Hygiene Services E- WASH, had assured full commencement of the project by the end of next month, adding that 200 households had been metered in Ogwashi Uku, while eight other zones would be provided with replacement pipes.

Saying that though the corporation was facing challenges of convincing the public to subscribe to the state water service, Okoh stressed the need for additional funds to sustain the growth of the corporation, adding” our objective is to ensure that household connections are in place and assure communities of repairs of defective pipes”

Speaking further, Engr Okoh said that customers of the state water service should be sensitized on the need to pay for water consumption, adding” this is the only means he corporation can generate income to service boreholes,buy chemical for the treatment of water and reticulation of pipelines”

He said that over four thousand five hundred meters were provided and most of them has been installed in Asaba, Ughelli, Issele Uku and Agbor Ogwashi Uku, adding”in DESUWACO, we want to be unique and commercially oriented so that we can generate revenue for the corporation because by so doing, we say No to unclean water”
