A new Executive has been sworn in to pilot the affairs of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oleh branch, for the next two years.
The inauguration of the executive followed the branch’s election held yesterday Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Irri in Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State where Mr. Theophilous Aniko emerged winner as chairman of the branch.
Messrs Awodezi Henry (vice chairman), Agbaragu Timothy (Secretary), Iluesure Obukehowo ( Social Secretary) and Mrs. Evi Esther Odhomo Godspower ( Welfare Secretary) were returned unopposed.
Administering the oath of allegiance on the executive officers, Honourable Justice Cletus Emifoniye of Oleh High Court charged them to hit the ground running by leveraging on the laudable achievements of their predecessors.
Justice Emifoniye who applauded the five man election committee headed by Mr. Aqwae Nero for successfully midwifing a new executive through a transparent and credible process despite daunting challenges which initially characterised the election, commended the immediate past executive under the indefatigable, purposeful and result oriented chairman, Mr. Sunny Adolor for the unprecedented achievement.
While admonishing the new chairman to be magnanimous in victory, Justice Emifoniye enjoined all the members to rally round the new leadership by supporting and cooperating with them to build an enviable, peaceful, progressive unified branch.
“I also congratulate those who are not going to be sworn in today but, participated in the electoral process. I congratulate them because it is their presence that made the election to be interesting. I know in another two years there would be another opportunity for those who did not come on board this time to come in again. But once the interest is there it should not die down. Your passion for the Bar should not wane simply because for this term you are not able to come in, ” he advised.
Responding on behalf of the new executive officers, the chairman, Mr. Theophilous Aniko acknowledged that they were stepping into the big shoes of his predecessors, especially with the onerous projection of completing the Bar Centre within the first year of his tenure.
He assured Lawyers of the branch that their taking over the mantle of leadership was not a political show off but, to selflessly serve the Bar even as he called for collective support and cooperation, promising to run an all inclusive and consultative administration.
