The Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Communications, and Barrister at Law, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe has said that the state economy will soon bounce back, not minding the financial setbacks as a result of the 2020 readjusted state budget occasioned by Covid-19 lockdown.
Oghenesivbe gave the assurance in a statement on Friday in Asaba, saying that the state governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has development socioeconomic initiates to recoup and replenish the state economy in line with the Stronger Delta vision of his second term tenure, adding that Delta government which recognises the headship of God, backed by visionary leadership will continue to respond positively to yearnings and demands of the people.
He further asserted that Gov Okowa, being a highly disciplined public administrator, grounded politician and super technocrat; have all it takes to meander through economic turbulence, such as the one generated by Covid-19 Lockdown, adding that infrastructural development, investments in technical and vocational education, sports development, social investment programmes, YAGEP, STEP and Girl Child Empowerment projects shall receive a boost as a deliberate effort towards rejigging the state economy.
“We shall overcome the negative effects of Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, sooner than later because our amiable governor, Senator Okowa, has worked out result oriented strategies to revamp the state economy.
“We as citizens must align with the actions and inactions of government by engaging ourselves in productive ventures without waiting for white collar jobs that may not be available at the moment, due to unstable national economy and rapid collapse of the industrial and manufacturing sectors in Nigeria.
“Government, in addition to; YAGEP, STEP, Girl Child Empowerment and other social investment programmes, may introduce new economic recovery strategies for small and medium scale businesses on a public, private partnership arrangements, wherein Deltans and young entrepreneurs can grow their businesses on certain painless terms and conditions as encapsulated in the Stronger Delta implementation strategies.
“Only recently, the Governor ordered road contractors to return to site enmass and ensure that all ongoing projects are duly completed as stated in their respective notarized contract documents; so as to increase the number of road networks needed for the smooth transportation of goods and services across the three senatorial districts in the state.
“Gov Okowa being a visionary leader, sees far ahead of post Covid-19 pandemic economic recovery bottlenecks and decided to start much earlier, to reposition the state for rapid results in all sectors with the hope that as the pandemic fades away, Delta will be counted as a front line state in Nigeria, in terms of unshakable capacity to perform her constitutional obligations,” Oghenesivbe said.
