Customs Intercept Smuggled Rice, Beans Worth Over N12Million in Kano

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs on Thursday said, the command intercepted and confiscated 295 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 50KG each concealed in bags of beans with duty paid value (DPV) of Six Million, six hundred and three, eight hundred and seventy nine naira. (N6, 603, 879:00)

According to the public relation officer of the command, Isa Danbaba, the operations which took place at Dawakin Tofa, Dawanau-Katsina road in Kano also succeeded in confiscating 351 bags of beans smuggled along with the rice valued at six million, seven hundred and fourth one naira (6,000, 741:00).

According to Danbaba, total amount for seized items stand at twelve million, seven hundred and four thousand, six hundred and eleven naira (12,704,611:00)

He said, the command is dismayed that despite the ongoing closure of entry and exit points of the state as part of measures adopted to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus, those in the illegal business still attempt to use the opportunity to smuggle in contraband goods which could further jeopardize the health of the people of the state.

Isa, stated that, the Area Comptroller, Nasir Ahmed warned that anybody who is into smuggling should stay away from kano/Jigawa as his men are always on ground to carry out their duty and would not hesitate to apprehend and prosecute anyone or persons caught in the illegal business.
