Kano Re-Run: Inec Sets Aside Jan 25th for Kano Reruns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set aside 25th January as date for rerun of two Federal Constituencies comprising of Kiru\Bebeji and Tudun Wada, two polling units in Kumbotso Federal Constituency as well as 4 State constituencies which include Bunkure, Madobi, Minjibir and Rogo.

The Resident Commissioner (INEC) Prof. Shehu Arabu, OON made this known during a stakeholders meeting on Tuesday at the Commission’s headquarters, Kano.

According to him, the commission, after a meeting held on the 5th of December 2019 approved that all the Court ordered rerun elections should be conducted on Saturday 25th of January, 2020.

The rerun elections which will be conducted in 60 Registration Areas across the affected Local Government Areas has a total of 414,923 voters, 698 polling Units, 166 voting points, giving a total of 864 voting points.

Arabu Stated that the meeting is an avenue for all state holders to demonstrate more commitment towards the success of the elections, assuring that his commission remains committed to the conduct of free, fair and credible reruns which is 11 days away.

Shehu further revealed that a total of 3,456 Ad-hoc Staff were recruited from NYSC and Students of Bayero University, trained to participate in the elections as all non-sensitive materials are deployed to the affected LGAs just as the sensitive materials are expected.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano Command, Abu Sani, psc+ stated that, adequate arrangements have been made by the police and other sister agencies to ensure a smooth and violent free elections as scheduled by INEC.

He warned that those plotting to cause any form of trouble during the elections should reconsider as the police would spare no one caught committing any act capable of disrupting the relatively peace enjoyed in the state.

He charged political party leaders to admonish their supporters to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner before, during and after the elections and rather exploit the various channels of addressing grievances as provided by the constitution.
