Unidentified persons believed to be hoodlums rampaging around some hotels in Ogwashi Uku Community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta state on Wednesday allegedly stabbed an unidentified female student of the state owned Ogwashi Uku polytechnic to death
Though the polytechnic authorities denied knowledge of the female student, saying that it was yet to identify the female as their own student, but members of the Ogwashi Uku Community vigilante ( OCV) Cordoned off the area until Policemen attached to the Ogwashi Uku Police Division arrived to take her lifeless body away.
Sources said that a Popular hotel ( namewitheld) where the girl was alleged to have been killed is currently being invaded by security agents as the girl was alleged to have come in company of her friends, but later left alone after complaining to her friends that she was feeling ill as it was learnt that unknown to her,robbers had laid siege to the unlit walkway of the hotel. The late student who was later found dead in a pool of blood was said to be in possession of an expensive phone and that she might have been stabbed while resisting the hoodlums.
A resident of the area, Jude Okocha said that snatching of GSM phones and lady’s handbags had become a daily occurrence in the area But the Police Public Relations ( PPR) in the state, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya when contacted said she was not aware of the killing and however Promised to inquire from the Ogwashi Uku Police Divisional Police Officer,( DPO).
Meanwhile, the Police in Ogwashi Uku Police Division have arrested an armed robbery suspect identified as Jay Boy while acting on intelligent gathering on Wednesday in the area. The suspect was said to be in company of two others of his gang after they have allegedly robbed some family members somewhere at the back Agboli street Off Isah road in Ogwashi Uku Community. Luck however ran out of the suspect Jay Boy when he embarked on more robbing spree somewhere around Umudei quarters Ogwashi Uku Community where he was nabbed by the Police detectives and others on hearing fled into the bush
The Police Commissioner in the state, Adeleke Adeyinka who confirmed the arrest of the suspect, said that the suspect upon interrogation, confessed to the crime, adding that the police have gone after the fleeing suspects while the arrested one would be Charged to Court on Completion of investigation. Investigation revealed that the armed robbery gang had before he was arrested, had been terriorizing Ogwashi Uku Community, robbing indigenes of their belongings and had also been guest to the Prison in Ogwashi Uku Community, unfortunately refused to change for a new leaf.
It would be recall that in the recent times insecurity was almost gaining ground in the Community which had led to the Police to up their game, leading to the arrest of some of the Criminals. Also, three men narrowly escaped electrocution around Assemblies of God Church Junction in Ogwashi Uku Community when the street light pole was said to have fell on the high tension line that conducts electricity from Ogwashi Uku Community but were lucky that the poles were not hanging on the ground during the incident
