A 64-year-old man, Olusoji Arowosomo, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud involving the sum of N8 million.
Arowosomo, a publisher, who resides at 35, Tunde Alabi Street, Ejigbo, Lagos was said to have defrauded his business partner, Mr Isaac Ukeje, according to reports.
Police Prosecutor, Insp. Christopher John said that the accused was facing a two-count charge of fraud and obtaining by false pretences.
John told the court that the Arowosomo committed the offences on Aug. 4, 2017, at Ejigbo area of Lagos.
He said that the accused defrauded Ukeje of the said money, being proceeds from sales of textbooks which they published.
He said “He stopped taking telephone calls from the complainant, and all efforts to retrieve the money was unsuccessful.”
John said the offences contravened sections 312 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr P.E Nwaka admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties be gainfully employed and should possess evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Nwaka adjourned the case to Feb. 14, 2020, for mention.
