A Makurdi High Court has arraigned a senior lecturer with Benue State polytechnic Ugbokolo Andrew Ogbuja for criminal conspiracy and rape.
Prosecuting counsel Mr P M Ukande state director state prosecution told the court on Thursday that the acussed conspired with his son Victor Ogbuja now at large between 2013-2015 to commit the illegal act contrary to section 97 and 124 laws Of Benue State .
He said that the acussed abused the victim ochanya ogbanje severally which resulted to her death in October 2018.
When the charges were read, the accussed pleaded not guilty.
The prosecuting counsel further urged the court to remand the defendant and fix a date for hearing . Reacting, the defence lawyer Mr Abel onoja prayed the court to compel the prosecution to ensure that the medical experts mentioned in the case are produced in court.
Trial judge Austin Ityonyiman ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal prison makurdi and adjourned the case to the 14th November 2019.
Ochanya the minor died on October 17 , 2018 as a result of complications from the prolonged rape which was alleged to have been perpetrated by the lecturer and his son Victor .
