Atiku on the ASUU strike

It has been shocking that Nigeria’s public universities have been shut since November and this govt seemed not to care a hoot. In fact they’re ready to even go into elections with the smear of the strike on its record. Even in the much-derided Goodluck Jonathan administration, the first comprehensive study into the problems of university education was conducted under the NEEDS assessment and N200bn was released to ASUU for upgrades, unpaid allowances etc. But under Buhari, all we’re seeing is the FG through Ngige (not even Adamu) play hide-and-seek time-wasting games.

It was not really surprising that the ASUU strike hasn’t occupied center stage attention in the campaigns. No be Nigeria again? Majoring in the minors and minoring in the majors.

Since Buhari and the FG have gone deaf-and-dumb over the matter, it was nice to hear Atiku Abubakar raise the strike issue today.
He said “I am aghast that as I speak, our students across the nation are not being educated due to the ASUU strike caused by an unresolved debate of about N60 billion.”

“If I get the job I am seeking, my first task on day one – along with naming my cabinet – will be to end this disgraceful strike and get our students back to their studies.”

If there’s one area the Atiku team will do well, it is in education. Peter Obi showed real ability in Anambra and Atiku has the knowledge, the exposure and most importantly, the correct mindset to try to reposition Nigeria”s education and bring it something closer to 21st century requirements.

The mindset is VERY important because if you have a President who does not UNDERSTAND an issue, you will only progress in error. Atiku/Obi have the proven record in world class education and are the sure bet in turning things around here.
