The Federal government has been called on upon to implement policies that would lead to Jobs creation and generate wealth for the country.
The National President of Information Technology Industry Association of Nigeria,Mr. Olutayo Adeniyi, made the call during a press briefing organised by CITAD yesterday in Abuja.
While addressing journalist,He said implementing policies will certainly make Nigeria IT companies competitive,grow faster and create many jobs thereby contributing to addressing the unemployment crisis in the country.
While expressing disappointment over the bad shape of the economy, Adeniyi said the economy can be made more competitive to provide Jobs and generate wealth for the through a careful deployment and mainstreaming ICTs to transform education and health sector,revamping agriculture and commerce to improve governance effectiveness.
“We call on government and its agencies to abide by the policy. “We will be setting up a mechanism to monitor the implementation of the policy with a view to advice government and possible way for sanction”.
“We have notice that contrary to procurement policies and the local content of ICT,
“Procurement, does not go to accredited IT companies, instead procurement is done through third parties who have no knowledge and experience about IT and this makes procurement more costly and creates delays in delivery and exposes beneficiaries to sub-standard products and services in many cases, MDAs end up with solutions that do not work”.
ITAN, also advised government to obtained registered licensed IT providers from the registry of computer professional registration councils (CPN) and companies that are properly licensed in the country.
ITAN is willing and ready to partner with government and other relevant agencies to accelerate the uptake and mainstreaming of ICT to overcome the digital divide and leverage ICTs to achieve the SDGs
in the country.
ITAN said it is committed towards reinvigorating the council, we will work with government partners such as NITDA,NIMC,TETFUND,GALAXY BACKBONE, NCC and others to ensure that we have a robust engagement that can deliver in Nigeria dividend of economic growth through ICT.
ITAN will continue to represent Nigeria at all level of world Information technology and services alliance (WITSA),so as to benefit from global policy.
ITAN will engage in new programs to support and grow the technology innovation ecosystems especially for startups both at the local and international level.
