The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in Akwa Ibom state, Obong Nsima Ekere, has lamented what he called extreme poverty in Akwa Ibom State, adding that 2019 poll will be an avenue for the people to vote out governor Udom Emmanuel whose administration he claimed had plunged people into extreme poverty.
The APC governorship candidate who stated this on Monday during his campaign flag off at the Uyo township stadium wondered why Akwa Ibom people should suffer untold hardship and poverty amidst the huge resources and federal allocations accrued to the state.
According to him, “This campaign should be based on performance and on issues, it will be about the referendum. We should not have business with poverty with all the resources we have in the state. AkwaIbom people deserve the best.”
He promised to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youths in the state and an enabling environment for the private economy to thrive when elected as the governor of the state.
Giving a summary of his vision for the state, Obong Ekere, reeled out his development blueprint for the state, promising to create wealth by building on the foundation laid by past leaders of the state.
Ekere maintained that his five-pillar vision which anchored on collective prosperity will be imbibed.
He urged students of tertiary institutions not to be deterred by PDP’s scepticism and that, paying the sum of 25,000 to them as bursary was realizable, urging them to remain resolute in their support for him. He assured them that his ”words remain his bond.”
The highpoint of the campaign flag off was the presentation of the APC flag to candidates of the party in the three Senatorial Districts to include 10 Federal Constituencies and the 26 State Constituencies.
