In a surprise move, the Federal Government on Monday announced the removal from office of the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Dr. Abdullahi Bichi Baffa.
The government, which made this known in a statement from the Office of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu and made available to The AUTHORITY, said Baffa has been replaced by Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, who was the Executive Secretary of the Fund between 2014 and 2016.
“The Federal Government has approved the re-instatement of Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro as the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
“The re-instatement of Prof. Bogoro is with immediate effect, with the same terms and conditions as it were in his previous appointment and as stipulated in the TETFund staff conditions of service,” the two-paragraph statement, signed by Mr Ben. Bem Goong, a Deputy Director, Information in Federal Ministry of Education stated.
Though no reason was given for his unceremonious removal, Baffa, who is said to be the Director General of one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign support groups, ‘One To Tell Ten’, recorded modest achievements, especially in the area of increased access to the multi-billion naira intervention funds of the agency by tertiary education institutions in the country.
The tenure of Baffa, who was before his appointment in August 2016 an aide to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, also witnessed the enlistment of more than 20 higher education institutions as beneficiary of TETFund projects. He is the second head of an education agency appointed by Buhari to be removed from office after the May 2018 indefinite suspension of Prof. Charles Uwakwe as registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO).
