The Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has paraded seven suspected cable thieves in the state.
NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Stephen Lar, who paraded the suspects on Thursday in Calabar, said that the suspects were arrested on January 4, 2019 in Ogoja local government area of the state.
Lar explained that the arrest followed the steady patrol and surveillance carried out by NSCDC personnel in the state on critical national assets and infrastructure.
According to him, the command under his leadership had recorded tremendous achievement in the area of arrest on suspected oil bunkerers and cable vandals.
“In keeping with the core mandate of the NSCDC which is mainly to curb vandalisation of critical national asset, especially in the oil and other sectors, the Cross River command of NSCDC intercepted vandals who tempered with transformer cables.
“As you can see, they use these cables and burn them into copper irons for their selfish benefits and keeping Nigerians in darkness. Because our eagle eyes are everywhere, we were able to get them arrested in the act.”
