2019: Atiku’s endorsement organized by friends not Ohanaeze – Leadership

Published

on

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Thursday say it never at time endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar for the forthcoming February election.

He said the endorsement was carried out by friends of Atiku and that of his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi.

Chuks Ibegbu, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, made the remark in Enugu, during a press briefing, jointly addressed with Chief Emeka Attamah, SA on media to the President-General, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, to mark the second anniversary of the current executive of Ohanaeze.

Some South-East leaders had during a meeting in Enugu, last year, attended by several groups and prominent personalities in the zone, endorsed Atiku.

However, Ibegbu said the endorsement was done by friends of the former Vice President and not Ohanaeze, stressing that the organisation needed to be circumspect, “as our children are in all the political parties.”

Ibegbu said: “It is erroneous to say that we endorsed Atiku. Ohaneze Ndigbo did not endorse anybody. That meeting at Nike Lake Resort was organised by friends of Atiku.

“Before Ohanaeze will take a stand, it has to convene Imeobi, the highest decision making organ. At the Nike Lake event, you did not see governors, senators, among others there, and these people are all members of Imeobi. But, even if they were there, the meeting was not Ohanaeze event.”

“However, due to our peculiar circumstance in the country, we will identify with candidates that will restructure Nigeria if voted into power,” he said.

“Ohaneze Ndigbo has been canvassing for our people to identify with candidates that will restructure Nigeria.

“We still stand on that and in the next few days we shall meet to take a holistic position on the elections,” he added.

On the achievements of the group in office, he said, “within these two years, we have given our modest contribution to the re-jigging of Igbo leadership and leveraging of Igbo issues in Nigeria.

“Some of our modest achievements serially include: The restoration of the dignity of the Igbo race in Nigeria and across the globe, the building of bridges with other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria;

“The initiation and pursuit of the restructuring of Nigeria, a position that has now become a national mantra; the promotion of Igbo language culture and heritage;

“The establishment and promotion of Ohanaeze Ndigbo activities at local, state, national and diaspora levels;

“The diplomatic and deft handling of such explosive issues as the Quit Notice to Ndigbo by Northern Youths, the Pro-Biafra agitation, the Fulani Herdsmen/Farmers crisis in Igbo land, the Python Dance issue and many other threatening issues that would have snowballed to a national disaster.”

He added that, “this leadership was able to build synergy with its affiliate groups like IDA, IWA, WIC, Aka Ikenga, Izu-Umunna, Njiko Umunna, Igbo Media Forum and other Igbo organisations to leverage Igbo Unity and development.

“This leadership encouraged unity and synergy among Igbo Governors and political actors for the overall interest of Ndigbo.

“This regime has put in place a formidable Youth and Women Wings for the organization.

“We want to thank the media for your support and assure Ndigbo that we shall in the rest of our remaining two years, we shall do our best to give Ndigbo a committed leadership.

“The President-General of Ohanaeze, Chief Barr. John Nnia Nwodo, thank the media, our fraternal brothers, associations and organisations, our affiliate bodies, youths, women, students, governors, political leaders and all Nigerians and wish all a happy New Year and hitch-free election 2019.”

The Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reversed all the benefits recorded by the PDP including the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which now grows at two percent instead of six percent.

Atiku made the submission on Tuesday during PDP South East Presidential Zonal Rally in Owerri Imo State.

Addressing a gathering of party supporters, Atiku promised to engage the youths through quality jobs. He advised them against the fake promises of the APC, describing the party as an evil party. He urged them to vote and ensure they defend their votes.

Atiku told the teeming youth who filled the stadium to capacity despite the fact that the State governor is of APC, they will either get employment or business.

Hear him, “We have promised jobs for our young men and women. You either have an employment or business. We will help you set up your businesses. We pledge that we are going to restructure this country. APC is not going to do it.

“Therefore, don’t vote APC. It is an evil party. Since Nigeria’s existence, we have never seen so many young men and women that are unemployed. They have turned this country into the headquarters of poverty in the world.

“They have destroyed our economy. When PDP was in government, we were growing at six percent. Today, we are less than two percent and our population is growing at three percent. Now our people are poor. This is what APC has brought to us.

“We have promised to restore the economy, to get the economy growing again so that there would be prosperity, jobs for all of you” he pledged

Also in his remarks, the Director General of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Senator Bukola Saraki said that hye rally is a clear signal that the entire South East has locked down their votes for Atiku.

He said, “This is a rally that is sending a big signal that the entire Southeast, the entire Nigeria is ready for a new president. They are ready for a new President that sabi the work, they are ready for a president that will create jobs for the youths.

“He is ready to lead Nigeria because he has the capacity. He has reserved 40% for you youths. This man will create jobs, he will take care of the youths and he will unite Nigeria.”

Also speaking, the National Chairman of the Party, Prince Uche Secondus stressed that the election is about incompetent and competence, energy and weakness, capacity and incapacity, asking the people to ensure PDP is voted in at all levels.

Highlights of the event was the presentation of PDP governorship flags to the party’s candidates in the five South East states of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.

Dignitaries at the rally are: Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu; Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi; his counterpart in Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu; Imo PDP governorship candidate, Emeka Ihedioha; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, serving and former National Assembly members from the zone, among others.

Your war on corruption is a charade until you prosecute all APC leaders, PDP tells Buhari

PDP Presidential Campaign Organization

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges President Muhammadu Buhari to go beyond the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal and former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and prosecute other leaders of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), who have been openly indicted of corruption.

The party says that singling out Babachir Lawal and Ayodele Oke, for prosecution, while providing official cover to numerous other indicted APC leaders and persons close to him, President Buhari has further confirmed that he is indeed partisan and insincere in prosecuting the anti-corruption fight.

The party in a statement by its Spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan pointed out that the fact Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed that Mr. President had to give his nod before Babachir and Oke could be prosecuted, goes to further confirm that President Buhari has annexed the system and directly determines who is prosecuted and who is spared.

The PDP therefore challenges President Buhari to immediately order the prosecution of all APC leaders, particularly members of his Presidential Campaign Council, beginning with the APC factional National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, the campaign Director-General, Rotimi Amaechi, other directors and zonal coordinators, who have allegations of corruption hanging on their necks.

“Mr. President should also immediately order the prosecution of the former aide to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, Mr. Baba Inna, who was arrested in September last year, over accusations of receiving N2.5 billion from politicians, businessmen and women on behalf of the First Lady.

“In the same vein, he should also order the prosecution of Mrs. Amina Mohammed, who while being paraded by the Department of State Services (DSS), last year stated in public that persons close to President Buhari were involved in serial fraud and looting of public resources under the official cover of the Buhari Presidency.

“President Buhari should also order an open inquest into alleged involvement of some individuals said to be close to the Buhari Presidency in the N1.032 trillion alleged corrupt acquisitions in 9Mobile and Keystone Bank PLC.

“He is also invited to order an investigation into allegations that persons close to him and serving in his Presidency took N500 million as bribe to reduce the fine imposed on a telecommunication company operating in the country, from N1.03 trillion to N330 billion.

“Furthermore, we challenge President Buhari to allow an inquest into the N14 trillion looted oil money under his watch, as detailed in the NNPC leaked memo; the handling of the repatriated $322m that has been siphoned under the guise of sharing to the poor; the N33 billion Internally Displace Persons (IDP) intervention fund and the billions of naira already frittered through the ‘Tradermoni scheme’. ”

PDP insists that until Mr. President musters the required political will to carry out these actions, his war against corruption remains a charade.

He said that “potentially, gum Arabic is an export crop that can add value to various sectors of Nigeria’s economy, most especially in the food
industry, biomedicine and afforestation, thereby contributing to national Gross Domestic Products (GDP).

“Gum Arabic is one of the most important crops in the mitigation of climate, hence the priority need for its massive cultivation in strategic areas of the country at the time in our history.

“NABDA is positioned to lead the use of biotechnological tools in developing a sustainable value chain of the crop for improved productivity.

“Specifically, shortening the maturity age of the crop, massive production of the seedling using tissue culture, enhancing the quality of the product
at molecular level, phylogenetic studies, among others, shall be our priorities.’’

Akpa said that the engagement was expected to lead to the development of actionable work plans on the crop to the benefit of the nation at large.
