Tiwa Savage: beats Davido, others at the MTV Europe Music Awards

Tiwa Savage was the only Nigerian winner at the MTV Europe Music Awards held Sunday night at the Bizkaia Arena, Bilbao, Spain.

She won the ‘Best African Act’ category, beating the competition that included Davido, Distruction Boyz (South Africa), Fally Ipupa (DRC), Nyashinnski (Kenya) and Shekinah (South Africa).

Tiwa was effusive in her thanks to God for making the honour possible, in a post on her Instagram page: Almighty God, you ARE so faithful. My savage soldiers you did this for us. You’ve stuck with me through the roller coasters, THANK YOU
To my amazing team, this is just the beginning.
African Woman, this is for US. I’ve been through a lot but I’ve kept my head up and weathered the storm because I know some little girl somewhere is dreaming like I did.”

However, Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello was the top winner at the awards, with “Best Song,” “Best Artist,” “Best Video” and “Best U.S. Act” in a show that featured a stellar performance from Janet Jackson.

Cabello, 21, who already led the pack at the MTV Video Music Awards in August, urged her fans in the United States to vote in the 2018 midterm elections as she walked the red carpet in the northern Spanish city of Bilbao.

The singer, who rose to fame as a member of the girl group “Fifth Harmony,” formed on the U.S. edition of the X-Factor, said she relished being seen as a role model.

“I feel like the message for me has always been just like do what makes you happy, even if it’s scary, it’s worth it to take the risk because your happiness is your responsibility,” Cabello said.

“That’s always been my message and I talk about it a lot but I feel like it’s a good message. And yes, very important, go vote!” she said.

Jackson, who received a “Global Icon” award, sang hits of her 40-year career over four stages and surrounded by African drummers, flame torches, firebreathers and more than 20 dancers.

The show took place at Bilbao’s exhibition center and was hosted by Hailee Steinfeld, who performed “Back to Life,” a song that will feature on the soundtrack of her forthcoming movie Bumblebee.

One of the hits of the night was Spanish Flamenco-inspired artist Rosalia singing “Malamente” after rolling on stage in a gigantic truck.

Five-time winners of MTV Europe Music Awards, English rock band Muse also made a splash by performing “Pressure” from Bilbao’s world-famous soccer stadium San Mames.

Other notable performances included Bebe Rexha singing “I’m a Mess” while in a bathtub surrounded by nurses and 100 dancers and Halsey performing “Without Me” surrounded by rainfall.

The show was opened by Nicki Minaj with her new hit “Good Form,” followed by her collaboration with Little Mix “Woman Like Me.” Minaj also received the awards for “Best Look” and “Best Hip-Hop.”

American D.J. Marshmello, who won “Best Electronic,” closed out the night alongside Anne-Marie with their hit “FRIENDS” and alongside Bastille with “Happier.” The performance was also among the public as hundreds of Marshmello inflated balls flooded the venue for the finale.

Other winners included Dua Lipa, who took the “Best Pop,” Shawn Mendes who won “Best Live” and 5 Seconds of Summer who received “Best Rock.”

Regina Daniels

Nollywood teen actress, Regina Daniels has been appointed as Atiku Abubakar’s Youth Campaign Coordinator.

The actress disclosed this in a post on Instagram where she pledged her support to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the ”Atikulated’ campaign.

The post reads; ”I am Regina Daniels. Proud to be 100% Atikulated with Atiku Abubakar who is in the race to become Nigeria’s next President.

”I accept my appointment as Youth Campaign Coordinator For Nollywood with humility and youthful zeal. Atiku is a youth-friendly leader who has assured that every 4 out of 10 of his cabinet will be a youth.”

”The drift is brazen. The nation is at crossroads. The land bleeds from hunger and inertia. It’s time to steer the ship away from caput. From Bama to Bori, Aba to Abuja, Kaura Namode to Kaduna, the sky is gloomy. ”

”It is time for Nigerian Youths to join me and vote Atiku/Obi 2019 to protect our future.”

BBNaija: Bambam reveals ‘secret’ of getting into Big Brother House

Bambam

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Oluwabamike Olawunmi also known as Bambam has given prospective applicants some tips on how to make through the audition stage.

Recall the Chief Executive Officer of Multichoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, had announced details of the fourth edition of the popular reality TV show billed for this year as well as audition dates and venue.

Against that background, Bambam during an interview with Plus TV Africa yesterday, disclosed that applicants do not need to bribe anyone in cash, sex or kind to make it through the multiple audition stages.

She said: “I didn’t know anybody, I didn’t have to sleep with anybody to get into the house.

“You just need to go there and be your original self. The psychologists that will audition you are only looking for something unique in you, so be you. Don’t try and impress by being somebody else or being whom you are not.

“Go prepared, have something you are working on, answer the questions being asked correctly, and just have faith,” she concluded.
