Nigeria crashed out of the World Cup after losing 2—1 to Argentina and Messi in Moscow.

Messi scored Argentina’s opener after being played through by Ever Banega in the 14th minute, but a second-half Nigeria penalty after VAR review tucked away by Moses meant Argentina were on the brink of crashing out of the tournament.

Odion Ighalo missed two golden opportunities to put the tie out of reach. The Nigerian contingent were left to rue those misses when Marcos Rojo broke Nigerian hearts and volleyed home the winner in the 86th minute to secure Argentina’s passage to the round of 16, where they will now face France on Friday.
