A hotel staff, Mustapha Okasime, was on Wednesday charged with theft of N133,000 and phone
valued at N25, 000 at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Okasime of Aguda- Surulere, Lagos,  is facing a charge of theft.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie told the court that the case was reported by Miss Anita Archibong, a receptionist at High Climax Hotel on Feb. 20 at Ogudu Police Station.

He said the offence was committed on Feb. 20 at the hotel located on Taiwo Street, Ojota,Lagos.

Ihiehie alleged that the accused had stolen N60, 000 being proceeds of the sales he made for registering sim cards and another  N73, 000 and one HTC phone belonging to the receptionist.

The prosecutor added that the receptionist was about closing for the day when her colleague, Okasime, who was with her phone and the money took an excuse to go and buy food.

“He said he wanted to go to Ojota Bus Stop to buy indomie noodles and egg.

“The receptionist waited for him for over 30 minutes and when she did not see him to collect  her phone and the money she suspected a foul play and decided to inform her General Manager.

Ihiehie said the accused had been on the run and was sighted some weeks ago before he was arrested.

The  offence contravened Section 285(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The accused pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused and must be gainfully employed.

Sule-Amzat said both sureties must produce evidence of tax payment  and adjourned the case until May 16.
